APPENDIX “J” SERIES CROSS-COUNTRY CARS

Se recomienda el montaje de protecciones inferiores, a
condición de que sean realmente protecciones que respeten
la altura mínima al suelo, que sean desmontables y que estén
concebidas exclusiva y específicamente con el fin de proteger
los elementos siguientes: motor, radiador, suspensión, caja de
cambios, depósito, transmisión y escape.
Se recomienda la instalación de un para-búfalos sobre el
parachoques. Esta rejilla protectora debe ser independiente de
la estructura del vehículo y no debe reforzarlo ni contribuir a su
rigidez. Este para-búfalos debe estar construido con tubos y sus
anclajes deben estar situados sobre el parachoques de origen.
No debe tener otra función significativa, que no sea la protección
y servir de fijación para faros adicionales.
Las ventanas laterales y posteriores situadas por detrás del
conductor pueden estar hechas de un material no transparente,
o sustituirse por un material transparente con un espesor mínimo
de 3 mm.
El perfil de la carrocería no debe modificarse como resultado de
estas libertades. Su fijación es libre, los mecanismos pueden
retirarse, varios paneles que cubran una abertura pueden
sustituirse por uno solo, y lo mismo se aplica para las ventanillas
de las puertas laterales.
El panel de vidrio de un techo solar, puede sustituirse por una
plancha de metal con un espesor mínimo de 1,5  mm, con
fijaciones adicionales si fuera necesario.
Se puede utilizar un sistema para bloquear el tapón del depósito
de combustible.
Podrá retirarse el soporte de origen de la rueda de repuesto
si constituye un peligro en el exterior de la carrocería y si esta
rueda se ha trasladado al interior del habitáculo (ver Artículo 6.4).
Se autoriza el montaje de retrovisores exteriores, así como el
cambio de los limpiaparabrisas delanteros y traseros.
El sistema de limpialuneta trasera puede retirarse.
Solo se permiten los cabrestantes eléctricos, instalados sin
ninguna modificación en la estructura del vehículo más que las
necesarias para permitir la fijación del cabrestante mediante
tornillos.

The fitting of underbody protections is recommended but only
authorised provided that these really are protections which
respect the ground clearance, which are removable and which
are designed exclusively and specifically in order to protect the
following parts: engine, radiator, suspension, gearbox, tank,
transmission, exhaust.
A cow-catcher is recommended, in addition to the bumper. This
protective grill must be independent of the structure of the car
and must not reinforce it or contribute to its rigidification. This
cow-catcher must be made up of tubes and its mountings are
situated on the original bumpers. It must have no significant
function other than that of protection and mounting of additional
headlights.
The side and rear windows situated behind the driver may be
made from non-transparent material or replaced by transparent
material, with a minimum thickness of 3 mm.

6.6.2) Habitáculo:
Todas las piezas innecesarias del sistema de cinturones de
seguridad de origen pueden retirarse.
Se autorizan, sin restricciones, todos los accesorios que no tengan
ningún efecto sobre el comportamiento del vehículo, tales como
los que afectan a la estética o a la comodidad interior (iluminación,
calefacción, etc.), con la condición expresa de que no afecten,
ni siquiera de manera secundaria, el rendimiento mecánico del
motor, la dirección, la robustez, la transmisión, el frenado o la
estabilidad.
Los mandos deberán ser los previstos por el constructor, incluida
su función original, pero podrán adaptarse para hacerlos más
utilizables o más accesibles: Por ejemplo, añadir una extensión
en la palanca del freno de mano o una placa adicional en el pedal
de freno, etcétera.
En particular, se permite lo siguiente:
1) Se podrán instalar libremente instrumentos de medición,
contadores, etc., adicionales siempre que su montaje no
presente ninguna característica peligrosa.
2) La bocina puede cambiarse. Se puede añadir otra a disposición
del pasajero o del piloto.
3) El mecanismo de la palanca del freno de mano puede adaptarse
con el fin de obtener un desbloqueo instantáneo (freno de mano
«fly-off»).
4) Se pueden añadir cubreasientos a los asientos de origen, incluso
del tipo baquet, siempre que se respeten las disposiciones del
Artículo 253‑16.
Se pueden retirar los asientos traseros, a condición de que un
panel estanco separe el habitáculo del compartimento del motor
y/o del depósito de combustible.
5) Se permite añadir compartimentos suplementarios a la guantera
así como bolsillos adicionales a las puertas.
6) El volante de la dirección es libre.
7) Se autoriza a sustituir los elevalunas eléctricos por otros
manuales.
8) Las alfombrillas son libres y, por lo tanto, pueden retirarse.
9) Se permite retirar los materiales de insonorización y los
guarnecidos.
10) Los paneles de las puertas pueden hacerse de chapa metálica
de 0,5 mm de espesor mínimo, de fibra de carbono de al menos
1 mm de espesor o de otro material sólido y no inflamable de

6.6.2) Passenger space:
All unnecessary parts of the original safety belt systems may be
removed.
All accessories which have no effect on the vehicle’s behaviour
are allowed without restrictions, such as those concerning
the aesthetics or interior comfort (lighting, heating, etc.), on
the express condition that they do not influence, even on a
secondary manner, the efficiency of the engine, steering,
strength, transmission, braking, or road-holding.
All the controls must be those provided by the manufacturer and
they must retain their original function but they can be worked
on to make them more accessible or more easily usable ; for
example, the addition of an extension to the handbrake lever, of
an additional flange to the brake pedal, etc.
The following is allowed in particular:
1) Additional measuring instruments, counters, etc. may be freely
installed, provided that their fitting is not likely to create any
danger.
2) The horn may be changed. Another one, possibly for the
passenger’s use, may be added.
3) The mechanism of the handbrake lever may be adapted in order
to obtain instant unlocking (fly-off handbrake).
4) Seat-covers, including those creating bucket seats, may be
added to the original seats, respecting Article 253-16.

The profile of the bodywork must not be modified as a result of
these freedoms. Their fixation is free, the mechanisms may be
removed, several panes filling an opening may be replaced by
just one panel, and the same applies for the windows of the side
doors.
The glass panel of a sun roof may be replaced by a metal sheet
with a minimum thickness of 1.5 mm, with additional attachments
if necessary.
Any locking system may be used for the cap of the petrol tank.
If the original spare wheel support constitutes a hazard on
the outside of the bodywork and if this wheel is brought inside
the cockpit (see Article 6.4), it may be removed. The fitting of
external rear-view mirrors is permitted, as is the changing of the
windscreen wiper blades, front and rear.
The rear window wiper system may be removed.
Only electric winches, fitted without making any modifications to
the structure of the vehicle other than a modification allowing the
winch to be attached by means of bolts, are authorised.

The rear seats may be removed on condition that a liquid-tight
bulkhead separates the cockpit from the engine compartment
and/or the fuel tank.
5) Additional compartments may be added to the glove
compartment as well as additional pockets to the doors.
6) Steering wheel is free.
7) It is authorised to replace the electric windows by manuallyoperated windows.
8) Carpets are free and may thus be removed.
9) Soundproofing materials and trim may be removed.
10) Door panels may be made from metal sheeting at least 0.5 mm
thick, from carbon fibre at least 1 mm thick or from another solid
and non-combustible material at least 2 mm thick.
