A significant statistical difference with a p-value < 0.05 was for restrain and
emotional eating. Thus, these two properties were found to be significantly more pronounced
in women than men. Our results are consistent with previous studies where women also
appear as more restrictive and emotional eaters (Heaven, Mulligan, Merrilees, Woods, &
Fairooz, 2001; Provencher et al., 2003).
Furthermore, correlations between the FEV I scales and the 16 ET scales were
examined. These correlations were again considered separately for men and women. Only a
single moderate significant correlation occurred at the level of 0.05 in the men’s group
(shown in Table 14). Although the tendency was mostly negative for low-calorie foods and
mostly positive for high-calorie foods, these correlations were not statistically significant.
