Symphony to change the lives of
Peruvian Youth and Children

oy un convencido del poder transformador de la música, y es así que en
Mayo del 2011 nace ”Sinfonía por el
Perú”, un esfuerzo conjunto con las
empresas privadas, municipalidades,
universidades e instituciones nacionales
e internacionales.

Con este gran esfuerzo hemos logrado que 1 820 niños
de escasos recursos se beneficien en su desarrollo personal, espiritual, social e intelectual a través de la capacitación musical. “Sinfonía por el Perú” es una obra social
e inclusiva, dedicada a capacitar, prevenir y recuperar a
los grupos más vulnerables del país. Contamos con 12
núcleos que vienen funcionando en distintas regiones del
país como: Cuzco, Puno, Ancash, Huancayo, Huánuco,
Trujillo, Lima y próximamente en Cajamarca.
Este proyecto se inicia, cuando en el año 2007 recibí noticias sobre el Sistema de Orquestas Infantiles y Juveniles
de Venezuela liderada por el maestro José Antonio Abreu,
está iniciativa se convirtió en un fenómeno artístico y social que ha transformado a través de la música la vida de
miles de niños y jóvenes con menos recursos.
En el año 2009 durante mi viaje a Venezuela, aprecié
como funciona el Sistema de Orquestas este maravilloso
proyecto. Mediante la práctica orquestal y coral, los niños
reciben enseñanza en valores que los hacen mejores personas, convirtiéndolos en un ejemplo para sus familias y
su comunidad.
Valores como la responsabilidad, el respeto a los demás,
la generosidad, el trabajo en equipo, les dan una proyección distinta a sus vidas. El niño que tiene un instrumento
musical en sus manos ya no es un niño pobre, es un niño
en ascenso que descubre un mundo diferente, y espiritual,
y esa riqueza espiritual que viene de la música y por la
música termina venciendo la pobreza material.
Una pieza muy importante de este proyecto es la “Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil Sinfonía por el Perú” integrada
por adolescentes y jóvenes entre los 15 y 26 años, provenientes de diferentes escuelas de música del país, teniendo
como sede oficial el Teatro Municipal de Lima. Sin duda la
orquesta juvenil cumple una función muy importante pues
es el elenco al que los niños de nuestros núcleos aspiran
llegar, además es semillero de futuros instructores para los
niños de esta iniciativa.

I am convinced of the transformative power of music. This
is the reason why the “Sinfonía por el Perú” (Symphony
for Peru) was born in May 2011 – a joint effort involving
private companies, municipalities, universities and national
and international institutions.
With this great effort, we have achieved that the personal,
spiritual, social and intellectual development of one
thousand eight hundred twenty low-income level
children benefit from music instruction.”Sinfonía por el
Perú” is a social and inclusive undertaking, committed to
training, preventing and recovering the country’s most
vulnerable groups. We have 12 groups that have been
working in different regions of Peru, such as: Cuzco,
Puno, Ancash, Huancayo, Huánuco, Trujillo, Lima and,
soon, Cajamarca.
This project began in 2007, when I received news
about the System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras
of Venezuela led by maestro José Antonio Abreu. This
initiative has become an arts and social phenomenon that
has transformed the lives of many low-income children
and youth through music.
In 2009, during my trip to Venezuela, I appreciated
how this wonderful project’s System of Orchestras
works. Through the orchestra and chorus practice,
the children are taught values that make them better
people, turning them into an example for their families
and community.
Values such as: responsibility, respect towards others,
generosity and team work provide their lives with a different
perspective. A child with a musical instrument in his hands
is not a poor child anymore, but one that is on the uprise,
discovering a different and spiritual world, and this spiritual
richness originating from music. Through music the child
ends up overcoming material poverty.
A very important part of this project is the “Youth Symphony
Orchestra, Sinfonia por el Perú” which includes teenagers
and youth between the ages of 15 and 26who come from
different music schools within the country and have the
Teatro Municipal de Lima (Municipal Theater of Lima)
as their official headquarters. Undoubtedly, the youth
orchestra plays a very important role because it is the cast
that our groups’ children inspire to become, as well as
because they are going to be the future instructors for this
initiative’s children.
